Ok, so I'll admit it; I'm not a big Sam n' Astrid (Sastrid?) shipper.
I honestly think they are the most relentlessly plain vanilla couples not just in the Gone fandom, but in any fantasy novel I have ever read.
It's the only thing about the gone series which isn't totally unpredictible and exciting.

I honestly do ship Sam and Taylor (Saylor?!?)...
...But not as much as i ship Orc and Astrid.
There. I said it.

I ship Orc and Astrid (Merriman+ Ellison= Merrison/Elliman?).
DUH DUH DDDUUUHHHHHH!

And I think they are my favourite pairing...Well, only now that Caina is apparently over, at least for the moment.

Heres why;

1. Orc totally deserves to get a girlfriend. I mean, he's been through a hell of a lot, and I believe that he has repented from his old bullying ways and deserves a second chance. He deserves a loving relationship,
Spoiler: show
especially after what happened to Howard in fear.
e

2. Astrid may be the only character who is kind to Orc IN SPITE of his appearances, not because she's afraid of him.
Spoiler: show
Again, Howard is deceased.
She treats him well not just because Perdido beach needs him and/or because he could squish her like a bug, but because he recognises him as a human-being, even in his rock state.

3. Seeing as everyone hates Astrid so much, she very well may need a body-guard XD. I mean, there are a LOT MORE Astrid haters than there are fans. :yay: :sly:

4. Astrid annoys me sometimes, and I think the times when she annoys me most are when she's around Sam. ANY EXCUSE TO GET THOSE TWO AWAY FROM EACH OTHER IS GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME.

So, what do you guys think of Merrison? Ship it? If so why? If not, why not?
Thanks for reading. :P :bye:

Not to say it's a good idea (in my opinion), but it's definitely not a bad one. I completely agree with you on the whole Sastrid-relationship. They're easily the most boring (and shallow) couple throughout the series. While everyone else's relationships seem to evolve with time and base on some sort of real connection, theirs feels kind of forced (didn't they say 'I love you' to each other in the first book?) and revolves around whether or not they will sleep together.

I do agree that Orc and Astrid have a connection since before the FAYZ, but their age difference kind of ruins the possibility of them being together. I mean, basically, Orc likes Astrid because she respected him and saw him as a real person when she was helping him with his maths in school. She also hasn't changed her view of him since then, even though he's been through alot and is basically seen as a monster because of his transformation.

I agree with you on the part where they'd be good together because she respects him for who he is (not what he looks like) but I don't agree on them being together because Orc deserves a girlfriend. Frankly, nobody actually deserves a girlfriend (or boyfriend, for that matter), no matter what happens to them. It's not like having a girlfriend solves your problems or makes you a better person by default. And it shouldn't be seen as some sort of reward for all the crap one's been through. It just doesn't work like that.

And last, but not least (before I keep ranting and won't be able to stop myself), Astrid doesn't need a bodyguard. She needs a mouthguard :effyeah:

MWHAHAHAHAH! I like your style! :hah:

And in reply to your comment on how no-one just deserves a girlfriend, that is true. If it was the world would be a completely balanced place where they'd be no need for laws, counselling and even friends. If people always got exactly what they deserved- how could anything truely be appreciated?
And I apoligise if I came off as misogynistic and/or chauvinistic. Of course Astrid (or any girl) isn't a object that can just be given away if someone sees fit. Such would be the makings of a patriarchy.
I will say however, that people can deserve to be happy. That isn't too much of a stretch, right? And obviously having a relationship doesn't just obliterate sadness, but Orc does need someone who can lisen and understand him. Isn't that but human nature? And (despite all the aminosity i get over this when debating it with my friends) I hold firm in the belief that Orc is still human. He has a human conscious, he has human level intellegence, he descended from humans and therefore only has human DNA. Which is why I feel pretty bad for him when any of the Perdido beach kids treat him otherwise.

No need to apologize ;) I understand what you're saying and I didn't mean for my comment to be some sort of accusation. I just got a little carried away and over-analytical :P

Like I said, I can't really picture them as a couple, mainly because they don't seem to have the same feelings towards eachother. Astrid thinks of Orc as this poor guy that's been through alot and that needs all the compassion and understanding that he could get. But it's not a basis for love or a relationship. Also, the age difference kind of messes things up because Orc, in addition to being younger than her, was also her 'student' (when she helped him with math in school).

I think what Orc really needs is some help, especially with his alcohol problem. Since this is the FAYZ, there's really nothing anyone can do but be his friend and be there for him. In other words, I see him and Astrid as friends, but there's just not enough chemistry or interactions between them that could make it lead to something more.

Orc was about to pretty much rape Astrid in plague so no, I don't think it would be too much of a good idea.

^ None taken.
I wrote this nearly a year ago.
When I was a total noob.
Lets just say I disagree with 70% of everything I wrote there, and kinda cringed a little in some places.

I'm going to keep this up though because its better to admit my misgivings than deny them viciously.

Also, aren't Orc and Astrid the same age? O.o
